SCHOOL OF ENERGY STUDIES OPENS IN AUGUST PDF Print E-mail

The Energy Institute of Uganda will open the School of Energy Studies designed to provide hands on programmes for its students, in August 2010.

The School will offer both certificate and Diploma courses on Energy Management and Management in Petroleum Industry and Economics, run on Semester basis with Day and Evening programmes.

UNDERSTANDING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BIOFUELS AND FOOD SECURITY PDF Print E-mail

Biofuels production has met great criticism recently with the argument that the increased production of energy crops for biofuel will lead to a substitution of agricultural resources (land, water, labor, fertilizer) away from food crops, thereby contributing to food insecurity.

 However according to the feasibility Study for the Production and Use of Biofuel in the SADC Region August 2005, Gaborone, Botswana, food insecurity is primarily caused by economic and weather-based production failures. The failure by farmers and consumers to gain access to adequate food through purchases and trade also lead to food insecurity both at the regional, national and household levels.

Heritage discovers the largest oil well PDF Print E-mail

Oil explorer Heritage Oil and Gas says it has struck one of the largest oilfields in northern Ugandan district of Amuru, far surpassing any of the previous discoveries by any of the exploring companies in the country. The company called the discovery, at Giraffee-1 exploration well in Block 1, “world-class.” News of the discovery saw the company’s share price on the London Stock Exchange go up by 1.1 per cent.
