Uganda’s total primary energy supply (TPES) per capita of 0.35 toe/pc is about five times less than the world average and is less than the Africa average of 0.66 toe/pc but is similar to that of neighboring countries like Tanzania, Kenya and Sudan. However, Uganda’s energy intensity, defined as TPES per GDP is Very High twice that of Africa (1.65 toe/1000, 2000$ versus 0.79) and five times higher than world average (0.31) in this regard Uganda is similar to Tanzania but has about 50% more energy intensity than neighboring Kenya or Sudan
Further electricity consumption per capita in Uganda is at a very low level around 70kw pc y compared to the Africa average of (558 KWh pc y) and 2659 KWh pc the world average consumption Uganda is similar to Ethiopia but has twice less consumption than Kenya This is a consequence of the very high distribution losses (30-40%) Uganda’s electricity consumption Figures will improve if these losses are reduced. We seek to work with any development partner in promoting improved wood stoves, improved charcoal stoves in Uganda, to provide efficient utilization of energy resources, to support economic growth, to ensure energy security and create a cleaner environment for sustainable development For more details please contact The Energy Institute of Uganda |
