Women constitute more than half the population of Uganda, but it is clear that they are almost never taken into consideration when energy planning decisions are made.

The Energy Institute of Uganda’s programmes for women aim at improving the quality of life of the rural people and provide income generating opportunities/alternatives while addressing social inequalities and environmental impacts.

The programmes  specifically aim at reducing women's burden of work and enhancing their economic opportunities, leading to women's increased empowerment and participation in decision making, contributing to poverty alleviation.
