The Energy Institute of Uganda is pleased to announce the opening of the School of Energy Studies scheduled for September. The school will offer Diploma courses in Energy Management and Management of Petroleum Industry and Economics respectively.
1. DIPLOMA IN ENERGY MANAGEMENTThis programme is aimed at equipping candidates with skills to conduct energy audit and promote energy management, plan, design, commission, diagnose and rectify faults in all sectors of the economy, including industry, commercial buildings, institutions, households, transport and agriculture. Course Units § Energy Scenario & Bridge Course Energy Conversion & Systems Energy Instrumentation Energy Audit and Management I § Power Generation technologies Energy Audit and Management II Heat Exchange and Waste Heat Recovery Environmental Management Research Project Project report Why you should attend? At the end of the course the student should be able to. 1. Critically appraise the existing procedures for energy management and energy source selection and suggest improvements: 2. By the use of engineering and scientific principles, develop and undertake the critical evaluation of alternative proposals and designs for energy provision and management in a business environment. 3. Confidently liaise with other professionals on matters associated with energy source selection and energy management 4. Conduct energy audits 5. Apply aspects of energy audit and energy management relevant to their employment responsibilities Duration The Diploma/Certificate in Energy Management is a one year programme. Minimum Admission Requirements are O ‘level certificates with credits in Maths and Physics. 2. DIPLOMA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF PETROLEUM INDUSTRY AND ECONOMICS Professionals within the petroleum sector must be equipped with multi disciplinary skills in the energy sector, be internationally minded and capable of teamwork in an international context, have gained an understanding of the energy sector in its economic, commercial, financial, environmental and technical dimensions, be capable of using the main decision making tools for making and justifying operational decisions. Course Objectives This programme aims at developing internationally- minded professionals able to take up managerial positions requiring multidisciplinary skills, the program offers a unique opportunity to complement technical skills with management know how and economic insight and to acquire real world knowledge from a faculty with strong ties to industry, in activities such as management, research and consulting.
